Frequently Asked Questions
The Therapy world is a confusing one, here are some FAQs may be helpful in your quest for clarification;
What happens in the initial conversation?
We will have a conversation about what you would like to bring to therapy and what you would like to achieve. We can talk about you and your needs, we can compare diaries to make sure we match practically and we can talk about my experience to make sure you feel comfortable that I am the best match for you. I offer the initial conversation as a starter point for you to ease you into the process, it is about your comfort and starting a conversation about expectations and most importantly if you feel safe that I am the right match for you, without having to commit your time and money.
How many sessions will I need?
This can vary between individuals, if you have time or monetary constraints, we can work on a session by session basis and assess needs as we go or we can work in a solution focused way, this means that we work on one particular topic for a set amount of time and if you feel you need to increase sessions, this can be agreed.
Some people just need one session and that can be enough to feel a little more in control of their world, others may like to continue for an unspecified amount of time so there is no pressure when feeling overwhelmed.
Ultimately the choice is yours, keep communicating and if you feel that you're not on the right path, let me know.
How often should I have sessions?
Generally weekly is recommended, I can work more or less intensely if needed, whether it is 2 sessions per week or once per month, the sessions are for YOUR benefit, they need to be set to your schedule and availability.
What is online counselling like?
Online counselling can be just as effective as face to face/in-person therapy. Benefits of online include but are not exclusive to; No commute, no accessibility restrictions, no allergen concerns, you choose your environment and comfort levels. All I ask is that you are alone and in a confidential space to be able to talk openly and honestly to be fully engaged in the session.
